She is upset at your not doffing your hat because now everyone at the function heard your excuse and knows your secrets. Be careful with that hat, though. If your wife tends to read any history at all, she may note that in Romania, I believe, Vlad the Impaler tended to nail hats to the heads of those who would not doff in his presence. What might she do the next time you fail to doff your hat at another lovely lady? You do live life on the edge, my friend. Isn't it wonderful??
